The Climb
In a scene from GOT's Episode 6 of Season 3 titled 'The Climb', Lord Varys and Littlefinger are in the throne room throwing barbs at each other while trying to expose the other's hidden ambitions. At one point Littlefinger has Varys down and Varys retorts by saying whatever he did was for the good of the realm. For me, this scene nicely sums up the entire GOT. ----- Varys: I did what I did for the good of the realm. Littlefinger: The realm? Do you know what the realm is? Its the 1000 blades of Aegon's enemies; A story we agree to tell each other over and over, till we forget that its a lie. Varys: But what do we have once we abandon the lie? Chaos! A gaping pit waiting to swallow us all. Littlefinger: Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them.
